On 20 November we were granted an official press conference at UNFCCC COP30. Unfortunately, due to a fire at the premises that afternoon (nobody got injured 🙏), the full COP programme for the remainder of the day was cancelled — including our press conference.
📣 As it is a pity not to share the worthwhile message we would have delivered, let’s shout it out here.
From Baku to Belém, more than 1,000 cyclists covered 30,000 km across four continents and 20 countries in a six-month relay — the longest bicycle relay ever achieved — to carry a common message to COP30.
Transport accounts for nearly 21% of global carbon emissions. Yet 75% of urban trips are under 5 km, and 42% of city deliveries could be made by cargo bikes. Everyday cycling is a realistic, low-cost and inclusive solution with huge untapped potential. Still, only 36% of the latest Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) mention cycling, rarely with concrete targets, budgets or governance frameworks.
We plead for everyday cycling as a quick win for reducing emissions!
➡️ acknowledge everyday cycling as a serious climate strategy with many other benefits attributed to that
➡️ have countries address everyday cycling in their National Determined Contribution (NDC) with significant efforts attributed to that.
To explore the data, arguments and our 10 concrete proposals in detail, download the full presentation document and join us in turning this quick win into a global climate commitment.
