Community Update #4 – Highlights
The COP30 Bike Ride keeps rolling! Since our last update, the banner has crossed Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, and Croatia, bringing our 10 proposals for sustainable urban planning and cycling promotion to communities along the way.
In Bulgaria (27 June), the team cycled the scenic Black Sea Route under scorching heat, facing slower progress and even an allergic setback for Ali (get well soon!). Despite challenges, they had inspiring meetings: in Burgas, Deputy Mayor Manol Todorov signed a commitment letter, and riders exchanged visions with local cyclists. They also shared stories at Greenburg Fest, inspiring many young people. Meetings in Varna and Dobrich underscored the national importance of adopting Bulgaria’s National Cycling Plan.
In Romania (4 July), the banner crossed the Danube for a 700 km ride through heat, rain, and storms. The team rode fast despite discomfort on race bikes, enjoyed generous hospitality from local families, and met the Romanian Cycling Federation, fostering collaboration with Bucharest.
In Serbia (9 July), Milan carried the banner 244 km solo due to illness in the team, meeting “Streets for Cycling” in Belgrade and “NSBI” in Novi Sad before handing over at the Croatian border.
In Croatia, the ride continues with new meetings and community exchanges.
This edition also features our Call for Commitments and Intentions, the COP30 Bike Ride at the International Urban Mobility Conference in Ankara, and the updated Rider Handbook.
Thanks to everyone sharing their stories – keep them coming!
