In 2025, the COP30 Bike and Sail Ride will unite passionate adventurers from across the globe as they journey by bicycle and sailboat to the Amazonian city of Belém, Brazil, the host of COP30, that will start on November 10th.
This extraordinary event is more than a test of endurance—it’s a powerful call for bold climate action, sustainable travel, and global solidarity.
With a main start point from Baku the site of the previous COP, the ride will feature multiple starting points across continents, including Europe, Central Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Participants will carry, as an olympic flame, a symbolic banner and navigate diverse terrains, from urban centers to remote regions, and sail across open waters to reach their destinations.
Along the way, cyclists will :
-engage with local cycling communities
-demand 3 commitments from the officials of the towns/regions/nations they cross (on cycling policies, at the 2030 horizon, which is the end date of the next round of COP climate plans)
Together, these interactions will create a global mosaic of citizen’s action, linking local concerns to international climate goals.
Belém, a gateway to the Amazon Rainforest, holds special significance as the host city for COP30. The Amazon, often referred to as the "lungs of the Earth," plays a critical role in regulating the planet’s climate. However, it is under immense threat from deforestation and exploitation. By cycling to Belém, participants will shine a spotlight on the urgent need to protect this vital ecosystem and advocate for just and sustainable solutions that prioritize indigenous rights, biodiversity preservation, and a rapid transition away from fossil fuels.
